Minister of Education Makes Surprise Visit to SLTF

The Minister of Education, Honorable Haruna Iddrisu, made an unannounced visit to the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) Accra, Ghana on October 20, 2025. The visit aimed to assess the progress of the highly anticipated No-Fees-Stress portal for the 2025/26 academic year and to prepare for the forthcoming launch of the Free Tertiary for Persons with Disabilities initiative.

The Minister’s visit comes just days before the official launch of this transformative initiative by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for October 24, 2025, at the Accra College of Education. This program is designed to ensure that individuals with disabilities have equal access to tertiary education, thus fostering an inclusive academic environment that empowers every Ghanaian.

During his visit, Minister Haruna Iddrisu commended the SLTF team for their exceptional efforts and unwavering commitment to improving the educational landscape in Ghana. “Your hard work and dedication are paving the way for a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable tertiary education system,” he stated, reinforcing the government’s determination to support all students, particularly those facing additional challenges.

The Minister took time to engage with the staff, exchanging pleasantries and expressing his appreciation for their ongoing contributions to the educational sector. He assured them that he would return for further discussions on future initiatives and collaborative efforts to enhance student support services.

Dr. Saajida Shiraz, CEO of the Students Loan Trust Fund, expressed her gratitude for the Minister’s visit. “We are honored and inspired by your presence, Sir. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to making education accessible for all,” she remarked on behalf of the staff.

This significant step towards inclusivity not only highlights the government’s commitment but also sets a precedent for other nations aiming to create equitable educational opportunities for all citizens.
