Press Release: Funding Tertiary Education In Ghana – The Role Of Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF)

The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) notes the concerns expressed by some trainee teachers in Ashanti and Brong Ahafo, during their demonstration on Tuesday, 25th March, 2014 and wish to inform them of the availability of student’s loan, a financial intervention for all students pursuing tertiary education in Ghana.

The Students Loan Trust Fund wishes to draw attention that following the upgrading of Teacher Training Colleges to the status of tertiary institutions, its funding coverage was expanded to include the Colleges of Education (CoE). Subsequently, the Students Loan Trust Fund has conducted nationwide outreach to the Colleges of Education from October to December, 2013 to inform prospective applicants of the availability of the student’s loan and to conduct education on the loan conditions and application procedures.

Unfortunately,  patronage from the Colleges of Education has been extremely low. Based on the low patronage, the SLTF has since March 2014 embarked on another orientation mission. This second phase, commenced with the Volta Region which has the highest number of Colleges of Education.

So far all Colleges of Education and tertiary Institutions in the Volta Region have been visited. The remaining regions are scheduled to be visited soon. It is worth noting that, during such visits loan clinics are mounted to create a one-stop shop opportunity for loan applicants.

The Students Loan Trust Fund wishes to remind first year students of all Colleges of Education and other Tertiary Institutions in Ghana of the availability of this funding option to support studying in tertiary institutions. Students are therefore encouraged to apply for the facility.

For additional information on how to access the loan kindly contact any of our offices across the country.
